Instagram, the popular social media platform, has made a significant update by adding the ability for users to leave comments on Instagram Stories. This new feature allows for a more public way to interact with the popular ephemeral posts that many users engage with on a regular basis.
Limited Commenting Access
However, it is important to note that the ability to leave comments on Instagram Stories is restricted. Only users who follow the poster and are followed back by the poster will have the privilege to leave comments on the Stories. This limitation adds a layer of exclusivity to the commenting feature, creating a more personalized experience for users.
Just like Stories themselves, the comments on these posts are temporary and will only last for up to 24 hours. This temporary nature adds a sense of urgency to the interaction, prompting users to engage with the content more actively within a limited time frame. Additionally, Instagram spokesperson Emily Norfolk mentions that users have the option to toggle comments on or off for any Story they share, giving individuals more control over their content.
Instagram’s continuous addition of new features to platforms like Reels and Stories signifies the company’s emphasis on fostering user engagement with friends, rather than just passively scrolling through content. The recent introduction of disappearing “notes” on grid posts and Reels further reinforces this focus on facilitating interactions between users. These disappearing notes, which function similarly to comments, expire after three days and users can choose who is able to view them, whether it be mutual follows or a selected list of close friends.
In addition to the new commenting feature, Instagram has also announced visual enhancements to the platform. Some likes on posts will now be displayed more prominently as floating hearts, adding a whimsical touch to user engagement. This visual update aims to make interactions on the platform more engaging and eye-catching, further enhancing the user experience.
