At Intel’s Lunar Lake launch event, MSI showcased the new MSI Claw 8, the second model of the handheld gaming PC. This new version offers several upgrades, including a larger battery and screen size. The design of the MSI Claw 8 is sleek in black and silver, making it more visually appealing compared to its predecessor. With an 8-inch screen, this handheld gaming device is designed to provide an immersive gaming experience.
During the event, the MSI Claw 8 was tested with the game Hi-Fi Rush, showcasing its capabilities. While the game ran smoothly on the Lunar Lake machine, the true test of its performance was limited to one game. However, the new Xe2 GPU from Lunar Lake appeared to handle the game well. The director of GPU technical marketing, Damien Triolet, mentioned that Xe2 scales down effectively with low power consumption, making it suitable for thermally sensitive designs like handheld devices.
Design and Features
The MSI Claw 8 felt well-balanced and comfortable to hold, despite its larger size due to the 8-inch screen. The buttons were easily accessible, although nothing extraordinary, and it included a pair of macro paddles on the rear for added functionality. While the design may undergo some changes before its official release, MSI has confirmed that it will feature the engineering sample of the Lunar Lake chip, the Core Ultra 200V-series, and an improved 80 Whr battery capacity.
MSI plans to launch the Claw 8 in January, aiming to compete with other handheld gaming devices on the market. With a higher battery capacity compared to its predecessor, the Claw 8 is expected to offer better performance and longer gameplay sessions. It will be interesting to see how it performs in benchmarks and whether it can outshine other options available today. The upgrade in power efficiency and GPU performance may give the Claw 8 an edge over its competitors.
The new MSI Claw 8 shows promising improvements over the previous model, offering a larger screen, improved battery capacity, and enhanced performance. While the final design may still undergo changes before its release, the Claw 8 seems to be a contender in the handheld gaming market. Gamers looking for a portable yet powerful gaming device may want to keep an eye out for the MSI Claw 8 and its upcoming launch in January. It will be interesting to see how it compares to other devices in terms of performance and value for money.
